Best of Bonaire: Ten Things We’ll Miss!

Our time in Bonaire has passed surprisingly quickly, in spite (because?) of the fact that we haven’t had an enormous number of commitments while here. Still, we did manage to get off the balcony once or twice to go exploring. Here are ten of the things we’ll miss most when we move on from Bonaire!

10) Practising Dutch whilst grocery shopping and – occasionally – with locals. Favourite new words learned: drempel, pindakaas (speed bump and peanut butter [literally peanut cheese]).

9) Eating cinnamon rolls at Stitches & Coffee (a bit of a hike, but worth it!). We also loved the Artisan Bakery Bonaire, featuring sourdough breads, naans, and pastries.

8) Trying cactus-based liquor and liqueurs. Not every one was a winner, but the aged rum was surprisingly good!

7) Spending some quality time chasing down flamingoes. (No flamingoes were harmed in the making of this post.)

6) Eating at some of Bonaire’s famous food trucks. Stoked was our very favourite, but Kite City (also conveniently located at Te Amo beach) was a close second.

5) Having a morning cappuccino – with a mini ice cream cone! – at Luciano’s, located right by the water.

4) Watching the sun set from our balcony, pretty much every single night.

3) Having a drink or dinner at one of the many great restaurants by the water, where you can see fish frolicking at your feet. (See our Bonaire restaurant post for the best of the best.)

2) Spending time at Bonaire’s donkey sanctuary, feeling the love.

1) Experiencing some of the best and easiest shore-diving in the world.
