We’re in Kotor, Montenegro for two months, during what turns out to be the low season. And that’s fine by us: restaurants are not crowded, people are friendlier, and the cruise ships seem to come only every few days (instead of several every day). This flat is a stunner, with gorgeous views and all the mod cons. It’s even got a big entryway, with plants and stuff so we feel very much at home. (Not that we can keep plants alive for more than a few weeks…) It’s also halfway up a steep hill, on the third (i.e. fourth) floor in a building without elevators. So, free calf and quads workout too!
Kitchen and Bath
The kitchen is small, but with very new appliances and a startlingly large refrigerator. Our landlords also stocked it with a few things, so we didn’t have to run out right away for groceries (though we did anyway). There’s a dishwasher, ample pans, a coffee maker, water boiler, good silverware, and tons of cups and plates. No teapot, alas – but we’re on the hunt for one!
And this fine beauty is our bathroom. Shower larger than in Rome, with more constant water temperature than in Oxford. A washing machine, good storage, a window. Also, it’s apple green, in case you didn’t notice. We are sad that they didn’t have the courage of their convictions and provide us with green towels and a green sink too, but we can make do.
Sleeping and Living
The living room/kitchen is one large space. It’s nicely furnished, with IKEA stuff mostly. The sofa is extra-long – we can both put our feet up on it – and comfy. And again, there are lots of places to put things, and well-located outlets.
The bedroom is small but with excellent closet space. It has a window, which we like, and lamps by both sides of the bed. The bed itself is very comfortable. And there is a perfect selection of pillows (we are fussy about this but don’t carry our own, so not that fussy).
Balcony
And then there’s this: the view of Kotor Bay, from the floor-to-ceiling window that faces west. It is already apparent that we will be spending daylight hours out on the balcony, unless there is some compelling reason not to, like rain. Which there’s been some of, and which there might be more of, but we’ll make do. And it’s not very humid here so things dry quickly.
So there you have it: home for the next two months. We’re really looking forward to getting to know Kotor and some near-by towns. And did we mention our balcony?
