The Best of Kotor: Our Ten Montenegrin Favourites

It’s that time again, where we pack up and move on. Even though it doesn’t feel like we’ve been here for only two months. And also, as usual, the time has passed quickly! But before we go, here is our list of the ten best things we did, saw, and ate here.

  • The view from our flat. It’s been stupendous to look at the water every day, watching it change colour and texture.
  • Cats!
Lucky there are enough chairs for the newcomers…
  • Walking along the water, and especially sitting by it at Platanus (the home of our excellent Thanksgiving turkey pizza).
  • Eating seafood nearly every day. We bought it in stores, we ate it in restaurants, we watched it swim in the bay…
Bonaca again, best seafood place in Kotor!
  • Getting lost in the cobblestoned streets of Kotor old town.
The very beginnings of the path up to the fort
  • Shopping at the Saturday market, even though there are things there that we still can’t identify.
Here is a bad boy we baked in the oven, stuffed with garlic, lemon and herbs. It was amazing!
  • Meeting friendly locals, and learning a little bit about Balkan hospitality from them. Most especially our landlord and Martina at Patisserie by Wine House. Patisserie is our go-to coffee shop in the old town, with excellent pastries and super-excellent staff. And we’ve met a ton of interesting travellers there!
Patisserie has an apple and cashew tart that might be the greatest thing in the world. Sounds a little odd, tastes amazing!

So there’s our Kotor top ten! Also, here’s another cat, just because…
