We’re two years in to full-time travel now, and we’ve been sharing our adventures with you the whole time. Since April of 2022, we’ve been to nineteen countries (eleven of them new to Laurel, thirteen to John – but not the same ones!). Here are our most popular posts to date.
Food
As usual, food takes the cake (so to speak). Colour us surprised: we’re still ranking in the top ten for our posts on on eel pie in London and brown cheese and waffles from Oslo. In a slightly more appealing vein, readers can’t get enough of our posts on the four classic Roman pastas, or on where to find gelato in Rome. Our posts on food markets, especially in Seville, also get a lot of views. And – maybe you like seafood as much as we do? – the Montenegrin seafood is also a popular one. As is our post on Irish stew.
Chucking It and Practicalities
Our very first post provides a helpful introduction to what we’re up to, and most people who find us make their way to it eventually. We’ve received lots of emails about our long-term financial planning post and also about money on the road. And our questions to ask your Airbnb host is among our most-read practical posts. Speaking of practical, we’re not saying we’ve saved any marriages, but our fighting on the road post garnered a lot of emails.
Life on the Road and Culture
Who doesn’t like peeking into other people’s homes? Posts about where we live now, especially Oslo, Istanbul, Limassol, Mindelo, Dublin, Kotor, and Seville, are popular, even when we don’t live there any more. Our books and movies posts, especially on Irish and Balkan writers, consistently get a lot of views. Our short trips to Tallinn, Kinsale, and Bratislava were among our favourites, and yours too!
We’ve gotten out of the habit of travel stories, but the one we did on smells provoked a lot of comments and emails.
Those are our most popular posts from the past two years! Thanks for following along with us, and here’s to another year of meandering minimally. (Actually, we’ll be meandering quite a lot this year: we won’t be anywhere more than two months until the autumn, and we’ve got thirteen countries on the docket…)
