Seville Top 20: Our Favourite Andalusian Things!

As you can probably tell, we’ve loved our time in Seville! Here’s our Top 20, the things we have really enjoyed about living here.

  • Tapas – everywhere and everywhere good!
  • Our morning (or sometimes afternoon) run along the Guadalquivir.
  • Flamenco, but also how the flamenco aesthetic influences women’s fashion more generally.
  • Paella – seafood, chicken, veggie, you name it, we like it.
  • Crossing the Queen Isabel II bridge to find ourselves in the lovely neighbourhood of Triana.
  • Splendid, and very economical, wines and fortified wines.
  • The gaudy, spectacular Plaza de España – one of the most beautiful public spaces we’ve seen anywhere.
  • Wonderful breads of various sorts. We thought we would like Spanish cuisine but we were not expecting the bread to be as good as it is!
  • Sitting in our favourite coffee shop or one of the great restaurants we’ve discovered.
  • The warm, sunny weather in Andalusia.
  • Great food markets, with a special shout-out to our fish lady in Triana.
  • Empanadas! These are originally Argentinian, but the Spaniard have embraced them. And who wouldn’t: they’re excellent!
  • Sneaking off for the day to spectacular places like Granada and Córdoba
  • Learning about the older and more recent history of Seville.
  • Salmorejo: John’s new favourite soup – and Spanish friends tell us it’s even better in summer!
  • Sitting or strolling in one of Seville’s many lovely parks.
  • Hanging out in our lovely Seville apartment, or looking out from the balconies!
  • And speaking of balconies, we adore the architecture here: so many beautiful buildings to see.
  • Also, we can’t get enough of those tiles we like so much and see everywhere.
  • The kindness and warmth of the Spaniards we have met. From smiles on the street to chatting with locals, this is a place where people like to connect.

We are moving on soon, but writing this Top 20 of Seville makes us think we might be back soon!
